DIY Mini Drill for PCBs

This is a mini drilling machine for drilling 1 mm holes in copper clad sheets for making printed circuit boards. The motor is from an old DVD writer(Open/Close). Its a 5 Volts DC motor and here it is powered by a 6V, 500mA adapter.

The size of the motor is 30x20mm.I took a piece of wood of size 35x35 mm and made some drillings to accommodate the motor. To the shaft of the motor, i have attached an 1 mm drill bit with an old ball pen refill as sleeve and some hot glue.
The wires to the motor are soldered before fixing the motor with hot glue. The red wire (+ve) is connected through a mini push button switch which is also glued.

For the base, i used some MDF wood as shown. The slot at the bottom is for housing the DC socket.

The 'Head' is fixed to the base with a 2 mm steel pin (from DVD writer)

The DC socket is added and a tension spring is also fixed as shown.
This is how drilling is done!

It takes just 10 seconds to drill a hole through this copper clad sheet.

My first PCB (FM transmitter) made with this mini drill.
